First up, CVS and Walgreens are basically the fire stations of the retail world. They almost never close. You can count on them for last-minute wrapping paper, aspirin for that “festive” headache, and, yes, emergency eggnog. They usually operate on reduced hours, so check your local app, but they are your go-to for survival basics.
Then there’s Waffle House. No, you can’t buy a sweater there, but if you need a warm, hash-brown-filled break from the family drama, they are always open. It’s a Christmas miracle wrapped in a pecan waffle.
Groceries (When You Really Messed Up)
If you forgot the cranberry sauce or the whipped cream, don’t panic. Whole Foods and Walmart are typically closed on Christmas, but some locations of Kroger and Safeway stay open until the afternoon. Pro tip: call ahead, because you don’t want to drive twenty miles on a prayer.
I am personally a fan of 7-Eleven for this crisis. Sure, the selection is weird (do you need a taquito with your pumpkin pie?), but they have milk, soda, and that one random bag of chips you never buy. It’s oddly perfect.
