I learned this the hard way when I tried to order a scone at 7:10 PM on a Tuesday. The lady behind the counter looked at me like I’d asked for a Michelin star meal. “Sorry, the ovens are off,” she said.
So if you want that cup of tea and a cake, get there before 7:00 PM on a weekday, or 4:00 PM on a Sunday. Otherwise, you are just staring at an empty bakery display. Depressing.
