If I had to pick one town that embodies the “worst” in the UK, I’d go with Bradford. Wait, don’t throw tomatoes! Yes, Bradford has incredible curry and a rich industrial history. But on almost every quality-of-life metric—health, education, income, safety—it ranks near the bottom. The city centre feels like a dystopian film set after the aliens left. (I’m joking, but barely—go check the boarded-up windows on a Tuesday night.)
Still, even Bradford has sparks. The National Science and Media Museum is brilliant. So, maybe the worst town isn’t a fixed address—it’s a feeling. It’s the place that makes you sigh when you see the sign welcome sign. And for that, I’ll give a dishonorable mention to Slough. But hey, at least Slough has a decent train to London. That’s more than Dave’s front step had.
So, what’s your worst town? I’d love to hear it—just don’t send me photos of syringes. I’ve seen enough.
