Weather is another great excuse. A light drizzle in Connecticut? Shut it down. A dusting of snow in Virginia? Better call the National Guard. It’s like the stretches of 95 near New York are made of butter.
Remember that ice storm last winter? People were stuck for 18 hours. They ran out of snacks. They started naming the cars around them. I saw a guy build a snowman in the middle of the left lane. Dedication.
Flooding is just as bad. A little rain, and suddenly 95 turns into a lazy river. You’re not driving; you’re hoping your car doesn’t float away like a sad rubber duck.
The “Big” Events: Presidential Visits and Caravans
Every once in a while, 95 shuts down for something fancy. A presidential motorcade zips through, and you’re stuck watching a parade of black SUVs. You tell yourself, “Well, at least it’s important.” But you’re lying.
Or it’s a truckers’ protest that moves at 12 mph. They’re all honking for “freedom,” and you’re just trying to get to a dentist appointment. I feel for their cause, but also, please move, Carl.

Sometimes it’s a celebrity sighting gone wrong. Someone spots a Kardashian at a rest stop, and suddenly there’s a traffic jam of people trying to take selfies. Yes, that has happened. Look it up.
