The investigation stemmed from comments made to co-star Pauley Perrette, who played the beloved Abby Sciuto. Perrette later tweeted that she left the show due to “multiple physical assaults” by a male star, which many linked to Weatherly.
Weatherly acknowledged his behavior, telling reporters he had a "reputation for locker room talk." It was a wake-up call. The television industry, much like the rest of the world, was finally holding people accountable for toxic workplace cultures.
This context makes DiNozzo’s exit feel less like a plot twist and more like a corporate reset. The character wasn’t killed off; he was gently encouraged to exit stage left.
What Happened to Ziva’s Ghost?
For years, the show danced around the loss. Tony left to raise his daughter, Tali, after Ziva’s supposed death. Fans held out hope for a reunion, a guest spot, anything.
The closure finally came in 2026. Weatherly returned for a brief, emotional appearance in Season 18, a Zoom-style scene that tied up the loose ends. It was satisfying, but it also highlighted how much the show had changed.
Why Michael Weatherly's Tony DiNozzo Left NCIS
Think of it like your favorite indie band breaking up: you love the new solo projects, but you miss the old chemistry. That’s NCIS without DiNozzo.
