Grab a modern map and look for the Middle East. Specifically, zero in on the countries of Iraq, Syria, and a tiny sliver of Turkey. That’s your bullseye. Mesopotamia didn’t have a passport, but it lived mostly in what is today Iraq, nestled prettily between two famous rivers.
Those rivers? The Tigris and the Euphrates. Yes, the ones you maybe heard about in history class or saw in a documentary. Their name together—"Mesopotamia"—is Greek for "the land between the rivers." It’s literally the name of the neighborhood.
