Here’s the thing: Nintendo is notorious for leaving fans in the dark. They drop hints like breadcrumbs through a lost woods. Remember the Zelda movie announcement? That was a shocker. But a full remake of Ocarina? Silence. It’s almost like they enjoy watching us squirm.
Rumors have been swirling since 2026. Some insiders say a remake is “in development” for the Switch 2 (or whatever Nintendo calls it). Others claim it’s a total reimagining, not just a graphics update. But here’s the kicker: no official release date. None. Zero. Zilch.
I’ll be honest—every time I see a “leaked” screenshot, I get a little thrill. Then I remember those are usually built in Unreal Engine by a fan. Ouch. The internet loves to play with our hearts, doesn’t it?
What We Actually Know (Spoiler: Not Much)
Let’s break down the facts. First, Nintendo did port Ocarina of Time to the 3DS in 2011. That was a remaster, sure, but not a full-blown remake. No new mechanics, no overhauled world. Just prettier polygons and touch-screen menus.
Ocarina Of Time Fan Remake
Second, the Nintendo Switch Online service added Ocarina of Time in 2026. So technically, you can play it right now—if you don’t mind the original N64 graphics (and that fog that makes everything look like a dream). But let’s face it: after playing Tears of the Kingdom, going back to those blocky Hylians feels like eating stale bread.
Third, and this hurts to type: Nintendo has never, ever hinted at a true remake. Not in a Direct. Not in a shareholder meeting. Not even in a cryptic tweet. It’s like they have a secret vault full of golden Triforces, and they’re just holding the key.
