Here’s the deal: the official opening is slated for December 2026. Yes, that’s still a little ways off. But hey, at least it’s not the 2040s, right?
You might be thinking, “But I heard April 2026!” I know, I know. There’ve been whispers. But the official line from the powers-that-be is solidly on that Christmas finish line.
Why the wait? Well, building a whole new station isn’t like popping up a tent. There’s wiring, signaling, and a thousand tiny checks to make sure the trains don’t, you know, crash. Safety first, chaos later.
What’s the Hold-Up? (Besides Normal British Construction)
One word: infrastructure. They’re not just plonking down a ticket machine and calling it a day. This is a full, four-platform station with footbridges and a car park the size of a small country.
They’ve also got to tie it into the existing Great Eastern Main Line. That’s like trying to perform open-heart surgery on a marathon runner while they’re still jogging. It’s tricky.
And let’s not forget the delays. Every major project has them. It’s practically a British tradition at this point—like complaining about the weather or queuing. We’d be suspicious if it were early.
