In 2026, tracking Santa has become a social event. Families across the UK now gather around smart speakers or tablets, following his red-nosed blip from Japan to the North Sea. The Official NORAD Santa Tracker app offers live video of his sleigh, complete with thermometers showing the rooftop temperature outside your home—a surprisingly accurate way to gauge his proximity.
Kid’s tip: if the app shows Santa over the English Channel at 11:45 PM, you’ve got exactly 15 minutes to brush your teeth and pretend you’re fast asleep. Adults, this is your cue to pour a nightcap and hide the last chocolate from the tin.
A Pinch of Practicality
Despite the hype, let’s be realistic: Santa is perpetually late in the UK because of the M25. Yes, his sleigh has been known to get stuck in low-altitude traffic jams over the Croydon area, especially if there’s a Santa convoy of Amazon vans below. The airspace above London is notoriously busy, so if you live near Heathrow, his arrival might be delayed by 10-15 minutes for air traffic control.

Also, consider the great biscuit debate. If you leave out a Rich Tea, he’ll be fast; a Hobnob, slower because he’ll dunk it. The ultimate power move? A packet of Jaffa Cakes—these guarantee a swift, satisfied visit because he respects the citrus geometry.
