Centre Court doesn’t start until 1:30 PM London time. Why so late? Because the grass needs to dry off from the morning dew, and the Duchess of something-or-other needs to finish her Earl Grey. But even that isn’t a guarantee.
If you live in the U.S., you’re in for a treat. Pacific Time means the action kicks off around 3:30 AM. That’s not a typo. You will be awake at the hour reserved for vampires and panicked blog writers. Eastern Time is a slightly more civilized 6:30 AM, but still—that’s before coffee.
But wait! There’s a twist. The “Today” in your question is a slippery fish. If it’s raining (which happens 47% of the time during Wimbledon), the schedule gets thrown into a blender. Suddenly, a match scheduled for 1:30 PM might start at 5:00 PM, or not at all.
The Great Roof Debate
Did you know Centre Court has a retractable roof? It’s a mechanical miracle—a giant metal eyelid that closes when the sky sneezes. But here’s the joke: the roof doesn’t help you figure out the time. If a match under the roof runs long, the next match gets delayed. A 1:30 PM start could become 4:00 PM, and you’ll be left staring at replays of a dude bouncing a ball for 30 seconds.
By the way, the roof was finished in 2009 at a cost of £80 million. That’s about $100 million to make sure you still don’t know what time to tune in. Worth it?
