So, to repeat: Season 8, Episode 9. “Honor.” Air date: February 25, 2018. Mark your calendar for annual sadness.
But here’s the twist—Carl’s spirit never fully dies. He shows up in flashbacks. He appears in Rick’s visions. He even influences the finale. The show loves a good ghost.
If you’re just starting the series, brace yourself. Carl’s death is like a rite of passage. You’ll hate it. You’ll love it. You’ll text your friends and say “WHY?”
One Last Weird Thing
Did you know Carl’s death almost happened earlier? Showrunner Scott Gimple considered killing him in Season 6. But they saved it for the mid-season premiere. Classic TV drama math.
And the hat? Carl’s iconic sheriff hat survives. It goes to Judith. Then to Rick. Then to… well, spoilers. But the hat is the real immortal character.
So, next time you watch “Honor,” remember: you’re witnessing a cultural event. A moment that split the fandom. A boy who wanted a world without walkers. And a hat that will outlive us all.
Now go grab some tissues. You’ve got 45 minutes of pure, brutal, beautiful TV ahead. And maybe a snack. You’ll need comfort.
