London is the only UK city with a directly elected mayor who has this much power. It’s a bit like having a mini-president for your city. The elections happen every four years, and 2026 is the next one. Mark May 7 in your calendar.
Think of it as the city’s quadrennial block party—but with ballot boxes. And if you’ve ever groaned about air quality or rent prices, this is your moment to channel that into action. The mayor can’t fix everything, but they can nudge the dial.
Fun fact: The Mayor of London role was only created in 2000. Before that, London was run by a board. It’s still a young job—so your vote is literally shaping the office’s history.
