Here’s your no-nonsense checklist for October 2026:
UK Bus Pass Rules Changed TODAY! 2026 Update Every Pensioner Must Know
Update your photo—the DMV-style mugshot from 2015 won’t cut it. Most councils now require a fresh digital photo, so smile nicely, and maybe ditch the sunglasses.
Download the local bus app—like Arriva or Stagecoach’s own—to sync your pass digitally. You’ll save ten minutes of fumbling in your coat pocket, which is roughly the time it takes to brew a proper cuppa.
Plan around the 9:30 AM rule. If you’re a morning person, prep a thermos and enjoy a slower start. If not, treat it as a gentle excuse to swap that 7 AM trip for a 10 AM one—and maybe grab a bacon butty on the way.
Also, check if your local council offers companion passes for carers. These are still valid, but you’ll need to re-register online by September. Miss the deadline? You’ll be paying full fare faster than you can say "single to the library, please."
