Then it happens: the lights come up. Not the spooky, dim, atmospheric lights—the harsh, fluorescent ones that make everyone look like they’ve aged ten years. Suddenly, the actors aren’t scary anymore. They’re just some poor university students yawning behind their zombie makeup, pulling off their fake blood like it’s a cheap Halloween costume. One guy was so tired he tripped over his own fake intestines. I felt that in my soul.
You start the slow shuffle toward the exit, weaving past families with crying kids and groups of teenagers huddled together, looking at their phones to see where they parked the car. It’s a textbook case of the Post-Fright-Night Blues.
The Car Park Pilgrimage
The walk to the car park is its own special horror story. Your legs have officially given up. Every step feels like you’re wading through treacle, but also, you’re still buzzing from the adrenaline. You laugh at something your friend says—something about the clown that looked like your boss—and you can’t stop.
You find your car, and it’s a mess. There’s a crumpled map under the seat, a half-eaten bag of sweets, and that one jacket that always smells like stale chips. You collapse into the driver’s seat, and the car groans in sympathy with you. The sudden silence is deafening.
