Don’t try to binge it. That’s a rookie mistake. Read a psalm a day. Maybe two. Savor the weird bits. When you hit Psalm 23, pause and smile. When you hit Psalm 69 (the one about being sunk in deep mire), just nod along. It’s okay to be confused. The book is a mirror for your soul, not a textbook.
And if you’re feeling brave, read it out loud. Psalms were written to be sung or chanted. Imagine your voice echoing in an ancient temple. Or just whisper it in your car. No one’s judging. (Okay, maybe other drivers will stare. But hey, they don’t know about the 150-chapter masterpiece you’re wrestling with.)
So next time someone asks, “What’s the biggest book in the Bible?” you can say, “Psalms, obviously.” And then, if you’re feeling cheeky, you can add, “It’s 150 chapters of pure emotional chaos, and I love every single one of them.”
Now pass the coffee. We’re going to need it for Psalm 119.
