Staff and locals swear the place is haunted by the ghost of a woman in white. She’s supposedly the ghost of a woman who was murdered in the pub in the 1800s. Staff also say she likes to move glasses around. “She’s a tidy ghost,” one barman told me. “She doesn’t break them, just rearranges them. Very British.”
There’s also a rumour that the ghost of George Cornell (the murdered gangster) still hangs out near the bar. That must be awkward. Imagine being stuck in the same room where you got killed, forever watching people drink cheap lager.
