Living with Thames Water’s issues has taught me one valuable skill: how to check for leaks by listening to the ground. I can now distinguish a harmless drip from a potential flood. Put that on my CV, please—“Subterranean leak detection specialist”.
I’ve also learned to keep a stash of bottled water in the boot of my car. And a pair of foldable wellies. And a sense of humour. Because if you don’t laugh, you’ll end up crying into your brown bathwater.
So, if you’re reading this from a dry street with crystal-clear water, savour it. For the rest of us in “my area”, we’ll just keep paddling through. And maybe, just maybe, we’ll get that email from Thames Water saying, “Your issue is now resolved.” One can dream, right?
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go check if Lake Thames has grown again.
