Pine seeds are fussy sleepers. They think winter is coming, and they refuse to wake up until they’ve had a good, long chill. This is called stratification. It sounds fancy, but it’s just pretending to be winter in your fridge.
Place the seeds in a damp paper towel, seal them in a ziplock bag, and tuck them in the fridge (not the freezer!) for 3 to 6 weeks. Check every week—if you see a tiny white root poking out, that’s a high-five from nature. Time to plant.
