Starbucks is your caffeine savior, but they close super early, often by 2:00 PM or 3:00 PM. Grab your peppermint mocha before you start wrapping, or you’ll be cranky.
Dollar General is the wild card. Many are open regular hours until 6:00 PM or 7:00 PM. They sell weirdly useful stuff like shoelaces and single-serving wrapping paper. It’s a vibe.
Macy’s and Kohl’s are for the truly brave souls who need a sweater at the last minute. Expect them to close around 6:00 PM, with crowds that resemble a penguin migration.
A Quick Note on the Grinches
Do not even think about going to Home Depot, Lowe’s, or most malls. They close up shop by 5:00 PM or 6:00 PM. If you need a hammer at 8:00 PM on Christmas Eve, I’m sorry. You’re out of luck. Use a shoe.
Also, Alcoholic beverage stores vary wildly by state. In some places, they’re open until 9:00 PM. In others, they close at 4:00 PM like they have a personal vendetta against your eggnog. Call ahead, you lush.
