This year, the organisers promised something big. Rumour has it there will be a 12-foot-tall mechanical dragon. Or maybe a parade float shaped like a giant pint of ale. Either way, it’s going to be ridiculous.
You’ll hear a mix of bagpipes, brass bands, and someone playing “Sweet Caroline” on a kazoo. The atmosphere is pure chaos. Expect children running around with tiny flag tattoos, and adults arguing over who makes the better bangers and mash.
And yes, the weather will probably be rubbish. It’s London in April. Plan for rain, wear a waterproof cloak, and pretend you’re a medieval knight. Own it.

Funny Detail: The Morris Dancers
You cannot escape the Morris dancers. They’ll be there, jangling bells and waving handkerchiefs like it’s 1590. It’s totally silly, but somehow hypnotic. Watch one for too long, and you’ll start moving your hips involuntarily. You’ve been warned.
Also, they have sticks. They hit them together rhythmically. It’s loud, it’s confusing, and it’s glorious. If you want to feel truly English, join in. Just don’t hit the dragon.
