Cold water is thick. It’s like trying to drink honey compared to warm water. (Okay, not that thick, but you get the idea.)
Your body has to work to warm up that cold water before it can even use it. That takes energy and time. Room temperature water is already close to your body’s natural temp. So your cells absorb it faster.
You’ll rehydrate quicker. Need proof? Try it next time you’re hungover. (Not that I’m speaking from experience… mostly.)
What About Your Workout?
I know, I know. After a run, you want that icy blast. But hear me out: that cold splash feels good, but it’s a trick. It can cramp your muscles because it slows blood flow.
Room temp water helps your body stay flexible. It keeps your core temperature balanced. You won’t win a gold medal faster by drinking Arctic meltwater. You’ll just shiver and pee more.
