I once had a leaky roof over my back porch. The handyman pointed at the gutter and said, “See that channel? It’s a right triangular prism—it handles the rain better than a round pipe. Less clogs.” He was right. The sloped sides of that gutter channel water straight to the downspout.
Now I see them everywhere. The roof of your doghouse? Triangular prism. The display stand for a fancy perfume bottle? Often a triangular prism. Even the reflective road signs on the highway use that shape to bounce light back at your headlights.
Why do engineers love them? Because they’re incredibly strong. A triangle distributes force better than a square. That’s why bridges have triangular trusses—to keep you safe while you drive over a river.
