The Starter: Bones
You need bones. Chicken, beef, turkey, or even oxtail. Roasted bones give a richer flavor, so if you have leftovers from a roast chicken or a prime rib, you’re winning. Use raw bones? Toss them in the oven at 400°F for 30 minutes first. It’s called “browning,” and it adds a depth that’ll make you cry happy tears.
Don’t have roasted bones? No problem. Use whatever you’ve got. The crock pot will work its slow magic anyway.
