First, let’s address the elephant in the room: the name itself. “Nuki Nuki Zupposism” sounds like something a toddler might invent after eating too much candy, or perhaps a lost track from a experimental noise band. In reality, it’s the title of a short-form anime series that debuted quietly on a streaming platform known for hosting experimental and indie animation. The show defies easy categorization. It blends absurdist comedy, surreal body horror, and a dash of philosophical musing—all wrapped in a visual style that looks like a cross between a children’s coloring book and a Dali painting.
The term “Zupposism” appears to be a made-up word, possibly a portmanteau or a nonsense term meant to evoke a specific feeling rather than a concrete concept. Some fans have theorized it’s a parody of “Zuppa,” the Italian word for soup, suggesting a theme of chaotic blending. Others argue it’s a reference to a forgotten internet meme. The creators have remained deliberately vague, adding to the mystique.
