Hurricane season in Orlando is basically a reality TV show starring every meteorologist in town. WESH 2 has Tony Mainolfi, who looks like he could wrestle a Category 5 storm. WFTV 9 has Danielle Gehrich, who delivers storm updates with the calm of a yoga instructor. And WKMG 6? They’ve got Meredith McDonough, who once did a live shot while standing in a kiddie pool filled with fake rain. Dedication, people.
The competition is fierce. They’ll hype up a “potential” hurricane just to keep you watching. “This storm could hit Miami… or it could fizzle out over the Bahamas! Stay tuned for three hours of us pointing at maps!” And we all watch, because what else are you going to do—go outside? In Florida? In this heat?

Sports, Sports, and More Sports
Orlando TV stations love their sports—especially if it’s about the Magic basketball team or the Orlando City Soccer Club. WFTV 9 airs Magic games, and their pregame show is basically a love letter to the team. “The Magic are finally winning! This is our year!” (Spoiler: It’s never their year, but we love the optimism.) WKMG 6 also covers the local high school football scene with the intensity of a national championship. You’ll see a 15-year-old quarterback get more screen time than the mayor.
And then there’s the Masters—Air Masters? No, just the local golf tournament coverage. They’ll interview a 70-year-old man who scored a hole-in-one in 1987. And you’ll watch every second.
