Most tourists take the wrong exit. They pop out on the main road and walk around a huge roundabout. Don’t be that person. You want Exit 1 or Exit 2. Follow the signs that say “Museums.”
Once you’re in that tunnel, look up. There’s a glass roof. It’s fancy. It lets in so much light you might forget you’re underground. It’s like the Tube station wanted to be a greenhouse but settled for being useful.
Pro tip: Exit the tunnel and you’ll see the museum’s giant whale skeleton through the window. Hope, a blue whale, hangs from the ceiling. She’s 25 meters long. She’s watching you. She’s judging your walking speed.
But What If It’s Closed?
Don’t panic. If you accidentally get off at Gloucester Road, it’s only a ten-minute walk. That station has a tiny, lovely park outside. It’s a good backup. But Glouster Road is like ordering pizza when you wanted a steak. It works, but you know you settled.
Another secret: Knightsbridge is an option, but it’s for masochists. You’ll walk through posh streets full of designer shops. It’s pretty, but you’ll arrive at the museum grumpy and broke. Stick with South Kensington.
And don’t even think about Earl’s Court. That’s like asking for directions to a cat when you wanted a dog. Just no. South Kensington is the one true station. Embrace it.
