Mike’s van was a legend. A bright blue, rust-bucket Ford Transit. It didn’t go fast. It didn’t go far. But boy, did it cause trouble.
In one episode, the van explodes. Literally. It’s a classic moment. Del and Rodney are inside, and boom—Mike is just standing there, scratching his head. No panic. Just a look that says, “Well, that’s Tuesday sorted.”
He also once sold the van to Del for a tenner. The engine fell out. Classic Mike.
Quirky Fact #1: He Was Almost a Villain
Originally, Mike was supposed to be a tough, shady character. A debt collector. A bit scary. But Kenneth MacDonald played him so softly, the writers changed direction.
Thank goodness they did. We got a Mike who couldn’t say “boo” to a goose. He was a softie. He’d let you owe him money for months, then give you a biscuit with your tea.
