Next time you touch a microscope, fight the urge to be a hero. Don’t go straight for the 40x or 100x. Take a breath.
Turn that nose piece to the 4x. Lean in. Look at the whole, beautiful, messy picture. You’ll see patterns, relationships, and the actual story.
Remember my dead fly? Under low power, I saw it wasn’t a blob. It was an insect with compound eyes, hairy legs, and tiny, translucent wings. It was magnificent. And I only saw it because I stopped trying to see everything at once. Sometimes, less magnification is more discovery.
