Breathe. You are not the first person to be stood up by a train. Legend has it, somewhere on a bench on the Mildmay, a weary commuter is still waiting from 2019. (Okay, that’s an exaggeration, but it feels true.)
Your best bet is to ask a station staff member. They’re the unsung heroes of transport, armed with radios and the patience of saints. Just don’t ask them why the line is down—they’ll give you an answer, but it’ll involve words like “signaling” and “leaves on the track,” and you’ll nod like you understand.
Alternatively, embrace the chaos. The Mildmay shares tracks with other lines, so you might accidentally end up on a train to somewhere new. I once took a wrong turn and discovered a bakery that changed my life. True story.

The Unofficial Rules of Mildmay Roulette
If the weather is nice, the line runs suspiciously well. It’s like the trains are soaking up the vitamin D. But if there’s a single raindrop? Brace for impact. Leaves, rain, and a mild breeze can shut down the entire operation faster than a toddler spotting a puddle.
Also, avoid Monday mornings like they’re a cursed artifact. The Mildmay seems to have serious weekend withdrawal and takes most of Monday to recover. By Tuesday afternoon, it’s usually ready to make polite conversation again.
And let’s not forget the mysterious “obstruction on the line.” What is it? A pigeon? A rogue umbrella? A portal to another dimension? We may never know. But it’s always the same phrase, and it always makes you think, “Fine, I’ll walk.”
