Here’s the deal: most Post Offices are closed on Bank Holidays. Yes, that includes the big ones like Easter Monday, May Day, and the late August classic. This isn’t a regional quirk—it’s a national rule for the vast majority of branches.
Why? It boils down to staff holidays and union agreements. Post Office workers aren’t robots; they get to enjoy the three-day weekend too. Think of it as their tiny victory over the eternal tide of parcels and passport forms.
But Wait—Are There Any Exceptions?
Ah, the classic loophole chaser! A tiny handful of “franchised” Post Offices—the ones tucked inside WHSmith or convenience stores—might stay open. But don’t bank on it. These are rare and often operate on reduced hours.
Your best bet? Check the official Post Office Branch Finder online (yes, the ancient website still works). Or, channel your inner detective and call ahead. That’s right—pick up the phone like it’s 1995. Most branches won’t even bother updating Google for Bank Holidays, so trust nothing but the direct source.
