So, is New York City bigger than London? Depends on your yardstick. By population, London is bigger. By land area, London is double the size. By density, New York is more cramped—so it feels bigger. By skyscrapers or swagger, New York takes the crown. But by history, tea choices, and royal embarrassment? London.
In the end, both cities are gigantic monsters that swallow tourists whole and spit them out with stronger opinions. New York is a frenetic jazz solo; London is a symphony that occasionally breaks into a punk song. Neither is “bigger” in the way you expect—but both will make you feel tiny and hungry.
So next time some loudmouth at a bar claims their city is bigger, just smile and say: “Define ‘bigger,’ you magnificent idiot.” Then order another drink and thank your lucky stars you don’t live in the suburbs.
