So, is alkaline water the same as distilled water? Only if you believe that a cucumber is the same as a pickle because they’re both green. They come from different processes, have different mineral profiles, and serve completely different purposes. Distilled water is for your iron, your car battery, and your CPAP machine—not for drinking on a hot summer day. Alkaline water is for people who want to feel fancy while peeing, but it won’t cure your hangover or make you live to 120.
Final surprising fact: The entire “alkaline water craze” was basically invented by a 1980s Japanese soft drink company trying to sell more water filters. It was a marketing scheme. A successful one. But here’s the kicker: both types of water will hydrate you. One just costs six times more and makes you feel like you’re winning at wellness. Drink tap water if you want to save money; drink distilled if you’re tinkering with electronics; drink alkaline if you enjoy being gently bamboozled. Just don’t confuse them, or your coffee maker will file a formal complaint.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to pour myself a glass of lukewarm tap water that tastes like victory and zero marketing hype. Cheers.
