Maybe you think basketball is just tall people running around in shorts. Fair enough. But the Illinois State schedule is different because it’s your team. When you see that maroon and white flash across your screen, it’s like spotting a familiar face in a crowded airport. You feel a little pride, a little “hey, I know those guys.”
Besides, the schedule is a built-in social calendar. Instead of texting “what are we doing tonight?” you can just say, “Illinois State plays tonight.” Boom. Plans made. No awkward group chat decisions about which pizza place to order from—just good vibes and maybe a three-pointer that makes you spill your drink.
The Sweet Relief of a Home Game
There’s something special about a home game at Redbird Arena. It’s like the comfort food of sports: warm, familiar, and always satisfying. The schedule is dotted with these dates, and they’re perfect for a low-stakes outing. You don’t need a fancy ticket or a deep understanding of fouls—just a pulse and a willingness to clap when everyone else does.
The conference games are the real meat of the schedule, though. Think of them as the “main course” after a few appetizers of non-conference matchups. You’ll see familiar rivals like Bradley and Drake, and those games feel like arguing with your sibling—you love to hate them, but it’s all in good fun. Mark those dates with a little star on your phone calendar; they’re the ones where the energy in the arena is electric.
