Let’s be honest: this isn’t Hamilton. It’s not even Mamma Mia! It’s a silly, sparkly, absolute mess of a show. And that’s its superpower.

If you go in expecting deep themes about love and mortality, you’ll be disappointed. Really disappointed. The show has a villain who runs a dating agency and wears a leopard-print jumpsuit. He’s basically a cartoon.

But if you go in with a group of friends and a willingness to laugh at everything, you’ll have the best time. The audience I was with was howling. People were clapping along. It felt like a party.

There’s even a moment where the ghost-nurse-lover does a dramatic sweater-ripping-off number. It’s ridiculous. I loved every second of it.

Is it for Kylie fans only?

Not at all. But it helps if you have a soft spot for 80s pop. If you know the lyrics to “Never Too Late,” you’ll get bonus Easter eggs.

If you’ve never heard a Kylie song in your life, you’ll still get the jokes. The show is self-aware. It winks at you constantly. At one point, a character literally says, “This is a very strange dream.” Yes, yes it is.

Also, the set design is bonkers. There’s a giant spinning pink heart. There’s a hospital bed that transforms into a disco floor. I can’t explain the logistics. Just trust the process.
