Here’s the secret that changes everything: a gainer is not a backflip. You don’t leap straight up and throw your head back. Instead, you run forward, plant your dominant foot near the edge, and punch off that foot while swinging your arms upward. Your body should lean slightly backward as you jump, like you’re falling into a hammock that isn’t there yet.
The motion feels wrong at first—like your brain is screaming “why are we jumping backward you idiot?”—but that’s exactly the point. You’re using forward momentum to convert into rotation. Trust the physics, not your lizard brain.
