First, you need to know your persimmon type. There are two main players. The Fuyu and the Hachiya. They ripen on totally different timelines. Get this wrong, and you’ll make a terrible face.
Fuyu persimmons are squat, like a little orange pumpkin. You can eat them crunchy like an apple. Or you can wait until they’re soft and jelly-like. The choice is yours.
Hachiya persimmons are long and pointy, like an acorn. Never eat these when they’re firm. Never. You will regret it. Your mouth will pucker into a knot. It’s a prank fruit when unripe.
