Instead of timing your softener with a stopwatch, just check the salt level every month. Low salt = bad regeneration = hard water that ruins your hair and your pipes. A happy softener with plenty of salt takes about 90 minutes, once or twice a week. That’s it.
So, the next time you hear that 2 AM gurgle, don’t panic. Just whisper, “Do your thing, buddy. I believe in you.” Then go back to sleep, because the only thing harder than regenerating your softener is trying to figure out how it works in the first place.
