So, to get Walt back, Michael does the unthinkable. He betrays Jack, Kate, and Sawyer. He shoots Libby and Ana-Lucia. It’s a brutal, gut-wrenching arc. He trades four lives for his son’s freedom.
And it works. Michael and Walt escape the Island on a boat. They sail off into the sunset, and we think: “Okay, that’s it. Happy ending for them.” Nope. This is Lost.
What Happens to Walt in Lost?
The Off-Island Curse
Walt becomes sullen and distant off the Island. His powers seem to fade. He hates his dad for what he did. The guilt eats Michael alive, and he tries to kill himself. It’s a mess.
Then, a ghostly apparition of Walt starts appearing to people. He appears to Locke, telling him he has to turn the frozen donkey wheel. He appears to Hurley, too. It’s like his soul is tethered to the Island, even when his body isn’t.
