Open your phone and look at a map. See that little blue dot? You are the origin. Every coffee shop to your right is in Quadrant I (positive x, positive y). That park behind you? That’s Quadrant III (negative x, negative y). You’re already using four quadrants every time you navigate to a taco truck—you just didn’t know it.
But here’s the kicker: without quadrants, your GPS would just shout “Go that way!” and point randomly. Four quadrants give directions a language—left, right, up, down—so you always know exactly where to turn. It’s the difference between “the bakery is over there” and “the bakery is at 3 blocks east, 2 blocks north.”
