Don’t just eyeball it. Grab a ruler or a pipe gauge. A 50mm pipe is actually 50mm outside diameter, but a 110mm pipe is often 110mm outside too. The connector’s job is to reduce the inner diameter. Get this wrong, and you’ll be holding a piece of plastic that fits nothing.
Most hardware stores sell reducing couplings specifically for this. They look like a stubby Yoshi egg—one end wide, one end narrow. You’ll find them in the PVC section, usually near the elbows and tees. Ask a staffer if you’re lost; they love pointing at things.

Watch Out for Pressure Ratings!
This is the boring part that saves your butt. Not all 50mm-to-110mm connectors handle the same pressure. If you’re connecting a high-pressure water line (like from a pump), you need a pressure-rated fitting. If it’s just gravity-fed rainwater, you can use a cheaper DWV (Drain-Waste-Vent) connector.
Read the package. If it says “non-pressure,” don’t use it for your garden hose that blasts like a firehose. You’ll thank me later. Really.
