We come across colloids and suspensions all the time, often without even realizing it. For instance, milk is a colloid because it contains tiny fat particles that are evenly distributed throughout the liquid. Similarly, paint is a colloid where tiny particles of pigment are suspended in a liquid.
Another example of a suspension is muddy water, where the particles of mud are larger and tend to settle at the bottom of the container. This is why muddy water often needs to be stirred or shaken before use. Even coffee can be considered a suspension, where the grounds are the suspended particles.
