So, how did this incredible program get started? Well, Dolly Parton herself was inspired by her own love of reading and her desire to give back to her community. She wanted to make sure that every child had access to quality books, and thus the Imagination Library was born.
It all began in 1995 in Sevier County, Tennessee, where Dolly grew up. She started sending out free books to kids in her home county, and it quickly took off. Today, the program is global, with books being mailed out to kids in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, and beyond!
But here's the really cool thing about the Imagination Library - it's not just about sending out books. It's about inspiring a love of reading in kids, and helping them develop a lifelong love of learning. And let's be real, who doesn't want that for the next generation?
