Reach for seltzer when you want to hydrate. After a workout, with lunch, or when you’re pretending to drink at a work party. It’s your healthy, boring friend.
Grab tonic when you’re making a cocktail. Gin and tonic, vodka tonic, or if you’re feeling fancy, a straight-up glass of bitterness. It’s the life of the party.
But never drink tonic by itself unless you’re a person who enjoys eating lemons raw. You do you, but I’m judging a little.
The Great Misunderstanding
People think all bubbly water is the same. They walk into a bar and say, “I’ll take a club soda,” meaning seltzer, meaning tonic. Chaos ensues.
Club soda is actually the middle child. It has added minerals for taste. Seltzer is just filtered water with bubbles. Tonic is the rebellious teenager with sugar and quinine.
Confused yet? Good. Welcome to the club. The only rule is: don’t mix them up in a cocktail. You’ll end up with a glass of regret.
