Ten is when kids start thinking about justice. They want action. But they also want characters who feel like them—awkward, brave, and slightly confused.
Try “Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief” by Rick Riordan. Yes, I know it’s famous. But there’s a reason. Percy has ADHD and dyslexia. He’s a demigod who can’t even stay in school. It’s hilarious. It’s fast. And it makes Greek mythology feel like a superhero movie.
For something quieter but still epic: “The Wild Robot” by Peter Brown. A robot named Roz gets stranded on a wild island. She learns to survive with animals. It’s got survival stuff, friendship, and a weird, beautiful robot heart. You might cry. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
