Plant cells are generally larger than animal cells. They can be 100 micrometers wide. Animal cells are usually smaller, around 10-30 micrometers. The plant cell is the giant tortoise. The animal cell is the speedy mouse.
Why the size difference? The plant cell has that big vacuole taking up space. It’s literally inflated like a basketball. The animal cell is more compact—it has to squeeze through blood vessels and tissues.
Wild detail: The largest known cell is an ostrich egg (it’s technically one giant cell). But that’s an animal cell! So animal cells win the “who is the biggest weirdo” contest.
