Here’s a quirky fact: Bank Holidays exist so banks can close. But who needs a bank when you need a stamp? The post office is the real MVP of errands. We don’t panic about cash machines—we panic about missing the last collection.
Did you know that in the UK, the number of post offices has actually shrunk over the years? But on a Bank Holiday, the ones that are open feel like oases. You walk in, and everyone inside has the same desperate look. “I forgot,” the eyes say. “Me too,” yours reply.
In the US, it’s even simpler. Federal holidays mean federal closings. That’s the rule. No packages. No tracking numbers. Just you, a lonely mailbox, and the sound of a “Closed” sign creaking in the wind.

The secret loopholes no one tells you
Here’s the inside scoop: Self-service kiosks are your best friend. Many post office lobbies have automated machines that work 24/7. You can weigh, pay, and ship without a single human interaction. It’s like a robot butler for your mail anxiety.
Also, check the online tracker. Some post offices have “extended hours” that are completely hidden on Google Maps. You have to dig. It’s a treasure hunt for stamps. And the treasure is a working postal clerk.
But let’s be real: the real joy is the drama. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of rolling up to a post office on a Bank Holiday, seeing a queue of five people, and realizing you beat the system. You feel like a mail ninja.
