Stop. That’s a myth spread by a memes page in 2026 that never died. Thailand loves Western tourists—you’re the people buying all those elephant pants. The only “ban” was a temporary measure on Russian airlines during the Ukraine conflict, but that’s long sorted. You’re welcome with open arms and a smile.
Thai airlines hit by oil crisis as 3,800 flights cancelled and 1.2m
If you’re flying from Europe or the US, routes are improving. United just launched direct San Francisco–Bangkok flights, and Finnair is adding Helsinki–Phuket in winter. That’s not cancellation energy—that’s expansion energy.
Quick Checklist for a Smooth Trip
• Fly midweek (Tuesday-Wednesday) for the least schedule changes. • Use Google Flights’ “track price” feature—it alerts you to cuts or cancellations early. • Pack a portable fan (Thailand’s air conditioning is aggressive, but airports can be stuffy if gates change). • Download the LINE app—Thais use it for everything, including airline notifications.
And remember: if your flight does get cancelled, you’ll likely get rerouted within hours. Bangkok’s airport has a cinema, a spa, and a branch of the Jim Thompson silk store. That’s a better layover than most people get at home.
