If you’re feeling brave, head to the Treetop Walkway. It’s a metal path suspended 18 metres up in the air, swaying gently in the breeze. You’ll walk through the canopy of lime trees, feeling like a slightly clumsy woodland elf. The view is fantastic, but so is the mild heart attack when someone jumps nearby.
It’s the only place where you can be above the birds and still worry about stepping in something. My advice: don’t look down if you’re afraid of heights. Do look out at the London skyline poking through the leaves. It’s a beautiful reminder that chaos is just a few miles away.
The Picnic: A True Test of Friendship
By midday, your stomach is growling louder than the bees. The café is nice, but it’s also £12 for a sandwich that’s mostly lettuce. Instead, embrace the 2 for 1 spirit and bring a packed lunch. Find a patch of grass near the Palm House, lay out your sad-looking sandwich and a bag of crisps, and feel rich.

Nothing tastes better than a slightly squashed ham roll eaten while watching a duck judge your life choices. And because you saved money on entry, you can afford a fancy ice cream from the kiosk later. That’s the secret formula: save on the big thing, splurge on the frozen dairy.
