So, what did Michael Weatherly do after leaving the most-watched show on TV? He didn’t retire to a beach. He launched a whole new series: Bull.

The show was based on Dr. Phil’s early career as a jury consultant. Weatherly played a smug, brilliant guy who manipulates court cases. It was a massive departure from Tony’s goofy charm.
This wasn’t a safe move. It was like a rock star ditching a sold-out stadium tour to play in a tiny jazz club. He wanted to prove he wasn’t just “that guy from NCIS.” And guess what? Bull ran for six seasons. Not bad, huh?
The Gift He Left Behind
Here’s why DiNozzo’s exit is still talked about: it was one of the best character send-offs in TV history. The show didn’t kill him off. They let him win.
Most actors get killed or just disappear. Tony got a full, emotional closure. He got the girl (sort of), the kid, and a future. It’s rare for a procedural drama to give a character such a satisfying resolution.
It also left the door open. For years, fans hoped he’d return—and when he did for a guest spot in 2026, the internet exploded. That’s the power of a good, respectful farewell.
